Step-by-step
- Open the QR Studio generator. No account needed.
- Pick a type: URL (website, menu, form), Text, WiFi, or vCard (contact).
- Fill in the details. The preview updates as you type.
- Style it: choose foreground/background colors and size. Keep the foreground dark and the background light.
- Optional logo: upload a small logo for the center. QR Studio switches to high error correction automatically.
- Download the PNG and test it with two or three different phones before you print or share it.
What can a QR code hold?
| Type | Good for | What happens on scan |
|---|---|---|
| URL | Menus, portfolios, review pages, sign-up forms | Opens the link in the browser |
| Text | Short notes, codes, instructions | Shows the text |
| WiFi | Guests, cafés, Airbnbs, offices | Offers to join the network |
| vCard | Business cards, name badges, booths | Offers to save the contact |
Static vs dynamic QR codes
Static QR codes (what QR Studio makes) store the content directly in the pattern. They work forever, need no account, and can’t be switched off by a provider — but you can’t edit them after printing.
Dynamic QR codes point to a short redirect link run by a company, so you can change the destination and track scans. The catch: many require a subscription, and the code can stop working if the plan ends.
Tip: if you might change the destination later, point a static QR code at a page you control (like your own site’s /menu page) and update that page instead.
Before you print
- Test with iPhone and Android camera apps, in normal room light.
- Leave a clear white margin (“quiet zone”) around the code.
- Shorter URLs make simpler, easier-to-scan codes.
- Check the QR code size guide for minimum print sizes.
FAQ
Are QR codes from QR Studio really free?
Yes. No signup, no watermark, and the codes are static, so they never expire.
Do QR codes expire?
Static QR codes don’t — the data is in the pattern itself. Dynamic codes can stop working if the service or subscription behind them ends.
Can I change a QR code after printing?
Not a static one. Point it at a page you control and update that page instead, or reprint with a new code.
Is my data uploaded?
No. QR Studio builds the code in your browser with a local JavaScript library — links, WiFi passwords, and contacts never leave your device.
